Lately I had some time to wield the paintbrush again … concepts from a newer campaign in the reaches of the Southern Dayinel and Calimantan.
Lyherin Dhurun Say, the Djen of Wisdom and high alchemist of the Council of Ardor. Customized chalk brushes, hair brushes and several textures, some of them repainted to reduce the photographic look including a crackle brush that I picked up from a set created by “algenpfleger”.
Those are actually desert scenes with brilliant sun light and smouldering heat which makes it difficult to bring in contrast and drama … at least I am struggling with it.
I have attached two snapshots from to display the effect of the different layers / brushes I use to build an image. I added some brushstrokes nearby for comparison. Obviously I start very rough with strong textures to build a solid foundation and then refine the brush strokes to add detail. I absolutely prefer chalk brushes.
